The Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society (NWPRRHS) was founded over twenty-four years
ago. It seeks to preserve the rich and diverse heritage of Redwood Empire railroading and to keep abreast of the
patterns of change as they evolve. The Society attempts to accomplish this mission through acquisition of maps,
photographs, drawings, statistical data, artifacts and other memorabilia. Also, by publishing results of our historical
research and studies and by recording oral histories from participants who contributed to a significant aspect
of our regional heritage. In addition, NWP-related historical displays, largely prepared from our archival collections,
are exhibited and maintained at the Santa Rosa Depot and the Cloverdale Depot.
The Society provides the opportunity for research and publication, participation in restoration as well as preservation
efforts, and excursions relating to the NWP. Also, it provides informative and entertaining public programs, and
the chance to meet, socialize and travel with people sharing this railroad's history. Regular meetings are held
at different locations within the Redwood Empire. The Annual Dinner recognizes individuals who have made significant
contributions to the cause of railroad history and preservation.
The Society compiles, edits and produces two publications. One, a newsletter, The Headlight, keeps members abreast of railroading in the Redwood Empire. The second, a semiannual illustrated magazine,
The Northwesterner, contains articles of historical interest
written by well known authors and historians.
The Society is a non-profit educational and charitable California corporation with no formal ties to the Northwestern
Pacific Railroad Company or its parent corporations.
